KARAVIDAS
Restaurant "Karavidas" is constantly one of the top choices for high-quality fish tastes in Athens. It was 14th of October 2000 when Mr. Spyros, decided to start a family business with a fish tavern, after several years of experience in many famous restaurants. The easiest decision was regarding the business name, as his family surname “Karavidas” actually means “crawfish”, which perfectly fits for a fish restaurant.
So, the restaurant literally became like a traditional Greek expression "name and thing"!
In this endeavor, during these years he got endless support by his wife Mrs. Irini, who have taken over the kitchen along with the experienced chef Vassilis Andriopoulos and his three sons, Nikos who supervised the buffet, as well Dimitris and Costas who supervised the customer’s service.
Since that time a significant evolution has occurred for the restaurant, however the passion and creativity from the family have remained unchanged and indelible over the years. Every day some family members are in position to welcome and take care of the customers to enjoy their meal….as if not a day has passed since the first day!
The restaurant is undoubtedly well-known for the economical prices and for the fact that it can be addressed to all kinds of wallets! Therefore, every weekday and Saturday, there is a discount offer including a Menu for 2 people at 28 € in total with 2 main dishes, 1 appetizer, 1 salad and 2 desserts with many choices according to your liking (Sundays and Bank Holidays are excluded).

Salads menu has a wide variety of fresh and boiled, all freshly cut and selected from the best vegetables on the market. Top options are definitely the mixed green and mixed boiled salads as well as the "Karavidas" salad which contains smoked salmon, lobster surimi, capers and mustard sauce and is particularly cool and delicious. In addition, a more adventurous recommendation would be the Political Salad (Bosphorus) which contains cabbage, carrot, celery and a generous dose of garlic.
For appetizers there are both classic and contemporary, all hand made. Fresh French fries and zucchini are definitely worth trying and from the "ointments" the eggplant salad, hot cheese salad as well as the crab salad made from crab surimi and homemade mayonnaise.
The heavy artillery, however, is undoubtedly the fresh fish and seafood that you will find in great abundance. The customers can order roasted sardines (married or unmarried), smelt fish, anchovies, whitebait fish from the small sized, fresh red mullets, koutsomoures and cod fish from the middle sized, and seabreams, dentex, stires, rofous, grouper, scorpions and sea breams from the large sized.
In "Karavidas" restaurant, you can obviously find the freshest (literally alive sometimes) crawfish from North Evia, fresh Gambari shrimps from Amvrakikos lake, which are supplied from Preveza and Amfilochia. Another option could be the fresh fried or grilled squid and the chewiest sun-dried (not pre-cooked) octopus grilled or boiled.
Shellfish menu includes saganaki or steamed mussels with an amazing sauce of lemon and wine, fresh and alive kydonia, gyalisteres and eventually Cannolicchios saganaki kept in sea water and delicious sea urchin salad, served with chopped and grilled bread and lemon. Of course, the store could not miss the savory and salty appetizers to ideally accompany ouzo or iced draft beer served in iced glass or the homemade tsipouro that has enchanted so many people and blowning away their minds, produced by the K. Karavidas's family in Polystafylo of Preveza, birthplace of the family. Worthwhile to try are also homemade anchovies marinated by Mrs. Eirini herself, smoked codfish, salted cured tuna in oil and the mackerel salad.
In addition, an unmissable dish is the orzo with shrimps or seafood (shrimps, mussels, kydonia, gyalisteres), which is served with chopped carrot, zucchini, parmesan cheese and sauce exclusively from fresh tomatoes and stands as the specialty of the restaurant.
Customer’s options are enhanced with spaghetti or linguini or risotto with shrimps, crawfish, lobster or seafood, as well as shrimps saganaki with feta cheese and fresh cuttlefish grilled or in wine sauce. When the weather is cold during winter, do not forget to taste our fish soup, with a generous dose of grouper, mixed with tenderly chopped greens. You will surely leave us excited with this delicious feast, which could even work as a therapeutic medicine. It is always served with fresh pepper mill.
Except from the large varieties of seafood, which can perfectly satisfy both your mouth and eyes, for the meat lovers we offer excellent quality milk chops ribs, pork and beef steaks, pork fillet, chicken fillet, sausages, and tasteful mixed grill varieties.
You can finish your meal by tasting one of our exquisite sweets, such as ravani, kantaifi, walnut pie and chocolate pie, all served with ice cream. We recommend the variety of the aforementioned sweets which can generously land to your table accompanied with sour cherry syrup. A more traditional option is yogurt with honey or conserved sweets and semolina halva during fasting days.
Once you visit "Karavidas" restaurant it is almost inevitable to return soon. The place is addictive and attractive, located in a picturesque and quiet environment, just opposite Veikou Park, with ample parking and a spacious outdoor area for smokers (stoves can heat you during winter months). For all these reasons, together with the pleasant accompaniment of soft music and a smiling welcome by the waiters, undoubtedly make the restaurant an outstanding choice for food and drink every day and time.
